The Embassy was opened in 1979 and carried out its activities until the outbreak of Somali civil war in 1991, when it had been evacuated and then closed. The Embassy was re-opened in 2011 and served in its campus near the well-known KM 4 boulevard of Mogadishu nearly 4 years. The Embassy has been moved to its new and modern campus at the old port in March, 2016. The consular services for Somaliland are covered by the Turkish Consulate General in Hargeisa. The Embassy also contains the Office of the Defence Attache and the Office of the Religious Affairs Counsellor.
