  I stayed at Ved Niketan for 3 weeks in 1973 and again for 2 weeks in 1976. I remember the head swami wore glasses. There used to be religious music coming from the loudspeakers daily, and on Christmas Day the sounds of 'Silent Night' resounded. I learnt meditation up the hill at Maharishi's ashram, and hatha yoga from Swami Krishnananda at Sivananda's ashram across the river. I used to regularly take the ferry across. I and others ate in the Choti Wala, but in 1976 myself and my ex-wife got a room up the hill at Butnath and we used to cook our own food for 6 months, until the rain season came. We had many great walks along the Ganges to Swami Premvani's ashram, and to Lakhsmanjhula. But I had many happy days sitting quietly by the river just down from Ved Niketan. Dave Ellis
