On this location in the middle of the forest, on 1 April 1943, 7:22, a British AVRO-LANCASTER bomber crashed. The aircraft was ED-626 of RAF 103 squadron. It was shot down on it's return from Emmerich. Six of the seven crew members died at the crash. They are buried on Harderwijk General Cemetery.
