Established in November 1, 1995 by co-workers, Jay Farrell and Edwin Uhlig, J&E Automotive is a full-service preventive maintenance and auto repairs center in the Nashville area, specializing in general services, car and truck care, undercar services, engine and transmission, engine maintenance, transmission services, heating and cooling services, electrical services, electronic services, and miscellaneous services.

The original location of the shop was located at the corner of 33rd Avenue North and Charlotte Avenue. Business was built up by networking and prior contacts both partners had, word of mouth, with little advertising except pounding the pavement introducing themselves to local people and businesses. The only form of paid advertising that was done the first year of business was having special fliers inserted in that zip code of the Tennessean newspaper.

Business gradually grew, fleets were acquired, and equipment expansion began. 3 years later, the owner of the building expressed interest in getting back in his building if J&E found another location....so as luck would have it, the current location at 3801 Charlotte Avenue at the corner of 38th Avenue North and Charlotte Avenue became available in 1998 after getting renovation by the property owner after tornado damage. 3 years to the date of opening, J&E moved to this location. Both partners, and technician Harry Vineyard, who was with the prior shop since 1968 all moved to the new spot. In 2000, both partners expressed interest in moving on with their lives as the business took it's toll on the friendship and the different visions the two of them had, and the financial stress became hard to bear. Jay Farrell remained an employee, and was eager to be out from under the business itself but still help it grow.

In August 2000, the partners seized the opportunity to sell the business to Thomas Marshall, a health care executive and CPA who wanted to purchase an automotive shop to complete a family dream. Him and his wife Patty Czarnik purchased the business and had Tom's Brother Gerry run the shop as manager....he had had aircraft technician background. 16 years later, J&E is one of the few, and most successful auto repair shops in the Sylvan Park/Sylvan Heights neighborhood in West Nashville....still building almost strictly on word of mouth and referral. Since that time one technician, Lamar Hendrix was added, and other than that, we have the original crew since Mr. Marshall's ownership inception. We pride ourselves on being an honest repair shop that gives people straight advice and information about the repairing of their foreign and domestic cars.
