This is the ID inspection point at the Gate #1 entrance to Kadena Air base. There are two lanes of traffic, but during non-peak times, sentries will reduce that to a single lange. IDs are inspected by Security Forces personnel, Security Forces Augmentees, and Guard sentries provided by the Japanese Government. "Y" plate cars are allowed through without inspecting insurance paperwork; however, Hiragana plate cars will need either a pass obtained by demonstrating adequate insurance at the visitor's center or, in the case of "Wa" plate cars (rentals), insurance paperwork will need to be presented to the guard. In addition, those attempting to access the base will need to obtain a pass or have in their possession a valid form military issued identification. Shortly after Road Tax season (April) vehicles will be expected to display valid Road Tax stickers; vehicles that fail to do so will invite further inspection (for insurance, etc.) and may be impounded by Security Forces. In addition this area serves as a DUI check point.
