Aeroportul Balcic

Bulgaria / Dobric / Balcik /

  • Charter flights carrying tourists to the northern Black Sea coast now land at the "snowflake" of the former military airport near Balchik. The ongoing development of golf courses in this part of Bulgaria is only one reason for their interest – the other is the fact that here you can still find a few beaches that haven't been blighted by gigantic hotel complexes. Until 1997, only one kind of plane landed at the airport near Balchik – military aircraft. Surprisingly, however, the first people to land there were neither army folks, nor even Bulgarians. During the 1930s when the airport was founded, all of Balchik belonged to Romania. Charter flights brought Romanian aristocrats there to visit their Queen Maria. This fascinating woman of English descent loved spending time at her palace in Balchik, which she named the Quiet Nest. Now her hideaway is one of Balchik's main tourist attractions. • On 25 July 1931, the Junkers F 13s opened a service between Bucuresti, Constanţa and Balcic (304 km long air route). The service to Balcic was flown daily until 15 September and reduced to three times weekly until its closure on 1 October. 1,642kg mail was carried between Bucuresti, Constanţa and Balcic in that season. Societatea Anonima Romana de Transporturi Aeriene - SARTA operated the route Bucuresti - Constanţa - Balcic, daily - in 1936. From 15 June 1938, LARES operated the seasonal Air service number 2114: Bucuresti - Cálárasi - Bazargic - Balcic. It was closed down on 15 September. During the year 1940, LARES operated an international air service from Bucuresti to Balcic and Istanbul (between May and mid-September), and also the internal line Bucuresti - Cálárasi - Bazargic - Balcic (2114, operated three times weekly). - text luat de la www.europeanairlines.no
