The site of Kınık Höyük (farther to the southwest) is being studied and excavated by a joint archaeological project of the University of Pavia and New York University, as an important settlement with remains ranging from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The evidence indicates the existence of a Bronze-Age hilltop citadel, surrounded by a lower town. The Roman-period settlement is tentatively identified as Tracias.
