village, archaeological site

The village of Şar in the district of Tufanbeyli sits on the site of Cappadocian/Cataonian Komana (in Latin, Comana), an important ancient settlement and sanctuary. It is possible that it is attested already in Hittite times under the name of Kummani (one of several places of that name). The most notable archaeological remains at the site are those of the theater built onto the northern face of the hill.
