Situated westwards from Curonian Spit, covers an area of 25041,07 hectares. Established by Environment Ministry of Lithuania in 2015 04 23 in order to preserve reef area and to secure its habitation' protection; to preserve velvet scoters' (Melanitta fusca), razorbills' (Alca torda), long-tailed ducks' (Clangula hyemalis) populations in their hibernation and migrational collection place and to secure their protection; to monitor this habitation and protected species, to collect information about their condition, to pursue scientific researches; to analyse influence of human' activity to sea ecosystem; to secure that nature resources would be used safely; to propagate biological diversity preservation ideas and methods.
