United Kingdom / England / Bath
 night club  Add category

Was once a public WC, converted into a night club, which was great through the eighties.
Found to be unsafe, so now lies derelict.

  • Previously a VERY SPLENDID public boghouse, all gleaming brass and with a central octagonal glass cistern. The very top notch of Victorian sanitary achievement.
  • I believe that the first group of University students that came to Bath in 1965 were responsible for the first useage of "Bog Island" - we ofter met on or near this island for our evening 'dates' or pub crawls! - as there were lavatories there it became known as "Bog Island" - I cannot remember learning this name from others - so claim first rights? - any other claims?
  • I was at school in the very late fifties and it was known as "bog island" then.
  • During the late seventies and into early eighties it was a nightclub that played really good music. My brother used to work around the corner at the Christopher hotel and we had many a fun night that would start or end at bog island.
  • I used to frequent this place (with my gf)in the early 80's.. Top nightclub back in its day, but became a mecca for the gay-scene in later years so I heard..
  • Me and my mate Milken - the inside trader - used to have some great nights at this place in 1991, and it was alive and throbbing then. A lot of sweat would drip from the ceiling which was not pleasant. Ultimately it was closed due to 'fire risk' I believe. Some great nights were had there
