Groundbreaking for a new Star Wars-themed land called Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge occurred on April 14, 2016. Grading and demolition were under way as of February 2016. Construction of the land involved the rerouting of the Rivers of America attraction in Frontierland, and required the demolition of Big Thunder Ranch as well as multiple backstage operations buildings. As of July 2017, the land's official name, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, was made public. The land opened on May 31, 2019.
