This area is used year-round by mine firefighting ships of the Belgian Navy and other navies for mine sweeping exercises. The area is used up in particular by mine response vessels as a shallow water zone for the use of sonar, remotely controlled underwater vehicles and divers. Finally, the area is also used as an area for testing and evaluation of mine detection systems.
