Millenary Monument (Millennium Column), erected in 1896 in memory of the establishment of Austro - Hungary who then celebrated the millennial existence.February 8, 1921 gave the rectangular pylon charges Czechoslovak legionnaires , with the intent to eliminate the hated symbol of Hungary. For lack of explosives not destroyed the monument, it only took home pylon and sculptures of eagles . On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia , they dwelt on the torso Memorial iron mast on which strengthened until the division of the Czechoslovak Republic flag on the occasion of the Freedom Day .
Zobor monument was designed by Julius Berczik ( Berczik Gyula), who was the author of all seven pillars of the Millennium. For its construction were used 344 granite blocks, which came up from Transylvania and come down to Nitra by rail. Column created four eagles, which were carved from Carrara marble. The monument began building April 13, 1896 , and ceremoniously unveiled it on August 30 the same year.
