The CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) swing-span rail bridge at Mission was built in 1891. It was planked to allow vehicular traffic. On July 24, 1955, one span became the victim of high water in the Fraser River. It took a year for the bridge to be repaired, prompting calls for a new bridge, which was finally completed just downstream in 1973, leaving this as a purely rail bridge.
