Glendale Town Center, designed by prolific architect Victor Gruen, first opened as an enclosed shopping mall in 1958. In 2007, the mall was renovated into an open-air shopping center concept, encompassing nearly 400,000 square feet of leasable space.

Indianapolis-based developer Milhaus, in partnership with property owner Kite Realty Group, broke ground in May 2020 on a 267-unit apartment complex as part of long-term plans to revitalize the area.
