hotel, postmodern (architecture)
18-story Postmodern/New Classical hotel completed in 2012. Designed by Atelier & Co./Richard W. Cameron, it is clad in red brick and white stone. The 1-story base is five bays wide, with a central entrance, and flanking bays of dark-green painted stone , each topped by a triangular pediment and stained glass. White stone panels above the colored glass have foliate ornament (above the doorway, the plainer stone panel is fronted by a black iron and glass projecting screen with a row of small finials. Above this is a semi-circular fanlight window in a brick and stone frame, with three scrolled stone brackets. On either side are simple stone panels; small sections of brick pier divide the panels, and are topped by stone spheres.
The upper floors are set back behind the base, four bays wide. The projecting center of the 2rd-5th floors is dominated by a further projecting copper bay window grouping on the 2nd-4th floors. On either side are white stone quoins, and double-windows (which continue up the facade). The central, projecting section continues to the 5th floor, with four single windows with peaked stone lintels, before being capped by a stone cornice with a pair of urns at the ends. The outer bays at the 5th floor are set off top and bottom by stone band courses. The floors above rise vertically across the four bays of double-windows; those on the 6th floor have splayed stone lintels.
The 13th-15th floors have slightly-projecting Juliette balconies at the outer bays, and each 15th-floor bay is outlined in stone. The 15th-floor setback is crowned by a modillioned and dentiled stone cornice. The top three floors are further recessed, and round-arches at the 18th floor. The top of the facade is crowned by four stone spheres.
The hotel is prohibition-themed, and features working rotary telephones. Its interior was decorated by Andres Escobar & Associates.
