This school is one of the oldest school in the state of Kelantan and has been given the status of cluster school in Malaysia which the title is being given to the school that has achieved the certain status of excellence.

What I'm gonna write here was straight away taken from the Sultan Ismail College magazine with the name of " The Kijang " of 61th edition of 2010.

This article was written originally in English in the " THE KIJANG ", make my task easier, because I just copied it without first, translated it from Malay for example.

The title of the article is " SIC - AT A GLANCE ", with five sub-titles.


LOOKING BACK....
Maktab Sultan Ismail (SIC) was established as Ismail English School(IES)after the name of DYMM[Duli Yang Maha Mulia][some sort of " His Royal Highness " or " His Majesty " which one is more preferably, I'm not sure]Sultan Ismail ibni Almarhum Sultan Muhammad IV on 5 January 1936. The pioneer students, a group of 37 year 1 pupils were placed temporarily in a workshop building in Padang Garong Malay School, Jalan Hospital led by Tg. Mahmud Tg. Yusuf as the first headmaster.

As the number of pupils started to increase tremendously, IES was forced to move to a new location in Kg. Kesina Dua, Jalan Telipot in 1937. IES developed rapidly to keep up with the demand from the local community which began to realize the importance of premier level education. Following that, the name IES was officially and permanently changed to Maktab Sultan Ismail(MSI)or Sultan Ismail College(SIC) by DYMM Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Muhammad IV.

LOCATION
SIC is strategically situated on a 12-acre land in Jalan Telipot, about 5km from Kota Bharu town centre, reputed as a controlled school in Kota Bharu PPD which is under the Kelantan State Education Department. SIC, a premier school in Kelantan, was awarded the Cluster School of Excellence in 2009.

FACILITIES
SIC is unique with buildings surrounded by natural gardens as its landscapes. Administration offices, teachers rooms, classes, laboratories and Tg. Mahmud Hall are some of the facilities available. Two old buildings have been officially identified as part of the country's historical heritage. An octagonal bulding where a library and a meeting room are located was contributed by ISMAILLIANS. There are other facilities such as a tennis court, a squash building, a huge football field and softball arena. Hostels are also provided for SIC boys and girls.


CURRICULUM:
A conducive teaching and learning atmosphere has been created through dedication and commitment of the principals and teachers of SIC, the consequence of which, many programmes initiated by the school have been proven effective and succesful. Instilling science and technology culture among all pupils through 100% science stream students is another contributing factor. In order to sustain our academic performanc, a number of awards such as Ismailian award, Aziz Ysmin award, Noor Zain award, Dato Azman Yahya award and Dato Dr Ezanee Award have been introduced.

A lot of curriculum programmes have been carried out such as Golden Nights, Golden Holidays, Extra Classes, Young Professor, Morning Talk, 'Kelas Prihatin', 'Buku Di Tangan', Subject Clinics, Parent-Teacher Interaction Sessions and Talks and Workshops by Master Teachers.


CO-CURRICULUM:
Students' attributes and personalities are further enhanced through participation in subject and uniformed societies, as well as sports and co-academic clubs. SIC is also popular with its elite clubs such as Bowling, Aviation, Equine and the SIC Football Academy. Some of the programmes are Sports Day, Cross Country Race, PPS Weekly Assembly, March Past, 'Perkhemahan Perdana'[in English it means the camping that is organized in a big scale at the schoollevel] and Arts and Cultural Heritage Carnival.

  • I was here in the year of 1982, transferred from SMKIP[then SMIP]actually before that from Sekolah Alam Shah[now is known as Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, with its new location at Putrajaya]According to my PMR[then SRP]results, I should be placed at 5 sciences 1, but was shifted to 5 Sc. 4, due to congestion/fully filled students in the classes. So, of course, I excelled in the class, where I was called upon to go to the stage, since appered best in term examination. Finally, in the SPM examination, I was the only first grader in the class, which later on I was offered to study in Australia, that I took the offer[like the Malay saying of "orang mengantuk disorongkan bantal" which means[is dedicated to foreigners that I was informed, found very hard to understand the meaning of Malay proverbs/"peribahasa']getting the thing which is desired/anticipated very much. What I want to tell is actually, I am the person who writes in this wikimapia webpage of "SIC is as I see[Maktab Sultan Ismail adalah sepertimana yang saya lihat ".Please! all the current SIC students accept your uncles's challenge to promote SIC achievement in whatever fields such as Kokurikulum[extra curricular activities]sport, games, society,club and others and try your very best to achieve the target of "cluster school" like SMK Dato' Ahmad Maher, like anecdotes that says "Hero kalah dahulu"[tapi jange laa kalah terus, Okay] Please look at your uncles's[myself] of that brutal comments from the positive's aspect more than negative one.   • There are a few of public figures, whoms are the products of Sultan Ismail College. To name a few are, Tengku Ahmad Rithaudeen, the royalty descendants, whom was used to carry the title of " Yang Berhormat "(YB), while his serving his tenure and holding the post at ministry level in the Federal governments. Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, who is the national shuttler, and used to win the title of champion of All England, once. He is still playing for the national team, at the international level, although his performance is not as good as the time that he won the coveted title of All England. Actually if we go to Sultan Ismail College, there is a lane that is called in Malay as " Lorong Tokoh ", which means in English as somewhat of " The Lane of Figure "[i'm not sure, whether my translation of Malay word of " Lorong Tokoh " into English language, is correct, or not.] What I'm gonna say,is that, we can see for our own, the names and the biodata of public figures whom were used to study here, ten years ago, twenty years ago, thirty years ago or forty years ago, or fifty years ago or even sixty years ago. The Sultan Ismail College, was established, for 63 years ago. But I believe, there are so many professionals, whom are the school leavers from this college, which are working in the fields of Accountancy, Medicine, Pharmacist, Engineering, Lawyers, Teachers, Administrative and Diplomatic Officer, CEO(Chief Executive Officer), Lecturers, and so many. I used to attend the PIBG's meetings(Annual General Meeting of Parents Teachers Association)of this college. The chairman of the PIBG, his name is Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad Sukimi Bin Haji Ibrahim, in his speech said during his schooldays here, he still remember how the students of PIBG, can be categorised into two groups. One group is, the hardworking students, whereas the other one is otherwise. 10Q, Salam 1Malaysia & Assalamualaikum!!!& Salam Sejahtera for non-Muslims.

  • My name is Wan Yusoff Wan Ismail. I am from the 1960 class of students In 1960 Senior Cambridge Exam SIC secured 9 students with Grade One. In those days it was a great achievement for the school. The headmaster was Mr KamTecK Soon. When I first joined the school in 1956 the headmaster was Mr Cartright, an Englishman. After him was Mr Chang Meng Kee who later became a Director in the Ministry of Education, Kuala Lumpur.
