This former Northern Pacific Railroad bridge remained in operation for almost 100 years, beginning with construction in 1885. It was built to allow NP passenger trains from St. Paul access to the Great Northern Minneapolis Station. The Burlington Northern Railroad stopped using this bridge during 1981.

It has now been converted for pedestrian traffic, as part of the Dinkytown Bikeway Connection.
