Germanwings Flight 9525 (4U-9525) was a regularly scheduled international passenger flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf operated by Germanwings Airlines, which on 24 March 2015 crashed at this site within the Massif des Trois-Évêchés near Prads-Haute-Bléone in Digne-les-Bains, France. The aircraft, an Airbus A320-211 registration D-AIPX, was carrying 144 passengers and 6 crew on board at the time of the incident, all of whom were confirmed to have not survived the crash.

Initial reports indicate that at 1047hrs on the day of the flight, the local air traffic control center declared the plane in distress due to a lack of communication with the flight crew following an unplanned descent from the flights 38,000ft cruising altitude, which was followed by a steep descent shortly after the aircraft overflew Marseilles. Radar contact was subsequently lost with the aircraft at 1053hrs to the Southwest of this location when it was last recorded at a 6,000ft altitude and heading Northeast to this location, where SAR crews found the wreckage of the aircraft.

  • This location is closer to wikipedia coordinates. Crash site is spread over 2 sq. km. That indicates circular dia of about 1600 mtrs. But the likely spread is in SW-NE direction.
  • Even having 2/more pilots at any time inside the cockpit isn't of use in such cold 'n premeditated acts by anyone at the flight controls. Best would be to do away with any pilots during the cruise phase.
