Seberang Jaya

Malaysia / Pulau Pinang / Perai /
 suburb, township

Seberang Jaya is a township within the city of Seberang Perai. It lies at the southern bank of Sungai Perai, across the river from Butterworth to the west. This booming township also neighbours Perai to the southwest and Permatang Pauh to the east.

Construction of Seberang Jaya began in 1970. The township was envisioned to provide housing for the employees and workers at the adjacent Perai Free Industrial Zone (Perai FIZ). Seberang Jaya has grown rapidly ever since due to its proximity to both Butterworth and the Perai FIZ, attracting migrants from other Malaysian states as well.

Two major highways - the North-South Expressway and the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway - intersect at the centre of the township, providing extensive transport connections with the surrounding areas. The suburb is well developed, with Sunway Carnival Mall becoming one of the more popular shopping malls within the entire city of Seberang Perai. The mall houses the Sunway Carnival Convention Centre, the main venue for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) within Seberang Perai. In addition, Seberang Jaya is home to Seberang Perai's largest public hospital.
