Kanjhari Irrigation Project is a reservoir scheme across Kanjhari nallah, a tributary of river Baitarani to provide irrigation to an ayacut of 9800 ha. The project is located at Latitude 210-35’-30”N and Longitude 850-43’-30”E near village Chaka in Keonjhar block of Keonjhar district. Construction of the project commenced during 1980 and completed in 1989. It comprises of homogeneous rolled fill earth dam of 1135m length with ogee shaped gated central spillway. The spillway is provided with 7 nos. of 12 x 6 m radial gates. There exists masonry non-over flow section of 13.50 m length between the spillway and right earth dam. There are two head regulators one on left and the other on right having design discharge of 5.74 and 6.75 m3/sec respectively. The catchment area of the reservoir is 358 km2 The adopted design inflow flood for the project is 2286 m3/sec. The revised design flood is 3157 m3/sec.
