The Memphis Pyramid was the old sports and music venue. It hosted its last sporting event in 2004 and its last concert in 2007. Memphis reached a deal in 2006 to allow Bass Pro Shops to build a grand store here, but when the building was found not to meet modern earthquake standards, the deal reached a snag. Funding for seismic refitting was finally approved in 2011, and the store opened on April 29, 2015.

The new store features the tallest freestanding elevator in America which takes visitors to The Lookout at the Pyramid at the apex of the building, where they can take in the view on an indoor and outdoor observation deck.
