lighthouse, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places
Lighthouse once located on the peninsula that extends southward from Mathews County, VA, but is now located on a riprap island built to protect the historic light. Built in 1805, the lighthouse has a rich history, having stood guard over the shallows near Mobjack Bay and Yorktown, VA through several wars and the modernization of navigation aids. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
