  • This is a tell (ancient habitation mound) and archeological site. I have verified the information in TAVO, Google Earth, and the Russian military topographical maps.
  • This looks more like an outcropping of the large basalt plateau to the north than anything else—checking elevation profiles of the wider area on Google Earth does not reveal anything especially notable about this particular spot that could not be accounted for by that explanation. I haven't checked TAVO, but the Soviet military map that I've checked (mid-1970s) only marks Buwaydah and not any tell here. I also don't recall seeing this mentioned in any archaeological surveys of the area, but I will double-check.
  • That this is an outcrop of the plateau is true, but that could also have a tell on it. In fact there are traces of remains, although these need not be particularly old. If you are able to identify the archeological site more compellingly with some other feature in the vicinity, it would be very helpful. But this was the best I could do so far. Note there is a distinct Tell Buwaydah near the Tigris much further to the east. The one we are discussing is indicated, for example, in TAVO B II 12.
