Tehsil Kandi, District Murshidabad (Barhampur), Bengal, Bharat.

Kandi is a sub-divisional town in the district of Murshidabad, West Bengal. It is home to a government-run hospital and Kandi Raj High School. The latter was built in the 18th century as theatre owned by the Zamindars of the Kandi Raj family, and later converted into a school under the leadership of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. Very near Kandi Raj High School is Kandi Raj University.

A good number of personalities of historical and cultural importance lived at or attached to Kandi, Among them Ramendra Sundar Tribedi, Dada Thakur(Sarat Chandra Pandit), Jagadish Sinha, Atish Sinha and Byomkes Chakrabarti are notable.

  • I am Shyamal Kumar Sinha - presently based at Bangalore. I recently retired as CEO of a US based company. I am proud to say that I hail from Bagdanga (Gopal Babu's Family- "Choto Taraf") and studied in Kandi Raj High School. I am a pass-out of 1966- Science batch. My Uncles- Gopal Babu & Bon Babu was Municiplaity Vice-Chairman & Commissioner.
