The MacCartney Aqueduct carries the canal high over the Silver River. It is in Derrycarney, in Cloghan Parish. It was built in 1803 and is named after Sir John MacCartney, the then chairman of the Grand Canal Company. There is a stone plaque on the aqueduct with MacCartney’s name on it. The Aqueduct is triple-arched and the Canal is 5.34m wide, crossing the Aqueduct.
