Formerly the S.J. Wilson Building at Juan Luna St., Binondo, Manila, the Cobankiat Building is a success story in adaptive reuse. Originally built in 1936 by Samuel J. Wilson, a Philadelphia-born business and mining executive who came to the Philippines to work at Carmelo & Bauermann together with his brother, Edward John, the eight-storey building once housed the Manila Stock Exchange, the Chartered Bank, and other prominent business firms. The building was recently acquired by Cobankiat Hardware, which also owns and operates Coby Hardware and Ace Hardware, a retail hardware chain found in most SM malls in the Philippines. Leon Cruz Araneta took charge of the renovation and was inaugurated on 16 October 2014, as headquarters of the Cobankiat group of companies headed by Johnny O.
