Ayuntamiento de Manila (Manila)

Philippines / National Capital Region / Manila / Cabildo
office building, national government / government

Also known as Casas Consitoriales. It currently houses the Bureau of the Treasury since 2013.

The Ayuntamiento was in ruins since the 1945 Liberation. It was famous for its marble halls, wood-paneled rooms and lavish European furniture. Juan Luna’s Pacto de Sangre used to hang in one of the rooms. It was in this building where the Spanish Governor General Fermin Jaudenes and American General Wesley Merrit signed official change of colonial power.

During the American period, the session room was used by the First Philippine Assembly in 1907 headed by Sergio Osmena and later by the Philippine Legislature. The Supreme Court and Bureau of Justice also held office in the Ayuntamiento.
