Built in 1925-26 and commonly called "Old Colusa Junior High School", it is the third structure built by the Colusa Union High School District. It was built to instruct up to 300 students as the previous high school was only built to instruct 75 (at the time of closing the school had 144 pupils).

A plaque was placed proclaiming that "This Building (is) Dedicated to TRUTH, LIBERTY, TOLERATION by the Native Sons of the Golden West, September 6, 1926." The sand used in mixing the mortar for placing the plaque came from each of the state's 58 counties and the water was taken from old wells at the missions of the state.

The building has served the community as a public school during the 50 years of its life time. In 1961; it was converted from a high school (grades 9 through 12) to a junior high school (grades 6 through 8).

Both the school structure and the grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as # 76000479.
