Historic Federal and Italianate-style house dating to about 1826, with an addition around 1879. Also on the property is a former coal mine and associated outbuildings. This was the home of James Hoge Tyler, 43rd governor of Virginia. The 253-acre property, which is also known as Hayfield, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
