tomb(s), place with historical importance, cultural heritage / national heritage, interesting place, war memorial, war cemetery

The tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Republic of the Philippines.

The focus of war commemorations, particularly on Araw ng Kagitingan and Araw ng mga Bayani. Also the focal point for ANZAC Day celebrations and a place for floral offerings from foxing dignitaries after the Rizal Monument in the City of Manila.

It comprises a single, marble-clad sarcophagus on a triangular daïs at the central roundabout of the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Behind is a backdrop of three rectangular pilasters arranged in a hemicircle, each adorned with a star. The three stars thus represent Luzon, the VIsayas, and Mindanao -- the three principal island groups of the country. An eternal flame burns before the nameless soldier's sepulchre in his honour and in memory of the many other patriots buried in the park and elsewhere.

The simple, black and brass plaque at the foot of the grave reads thusly:
"HERE LIES
A FILIPINO SOLDIER
WHOSE NAME IS KNOWN
ONLY TO GOD."
