Official Headquarters of the Philippine Air Force.

Established about 1912. Originally designated Camp Nichols in honor of Capt. Taylor A. Nichols, Philippine Scouts. Redesignated Nichols Field on 10 June 1929.

Formerly home to the Headquarters, 4th Composite Group from 1921 to 1941, the 2nd Observation Squadron from 1929 to 1940 and in 1941, the 3rd Aero Squadron from 1919 to 1920, the 3rd Pursuit Squadron from 1938 to 1940, the Base Headquarters and 20th Air Base Squadron from 1936 to 1940, the 17th Pursuit Squadron from 1940 to 1941, the 20th Pursuit Squadron from 1940 to 1941, the 21st Pursuit Squadron in 1941, the 28th Bombardment Squadron from 1923 to 1938, and the 66th Service Squadron from 1929 to 1936.

  • The Philippines had asked the United States for F-16 fighter jets, as well as patrol vessels, transport aircraft and radar systems, according to Aquino. "They are still studying the request for the excess F-16s. We are hoping they will look at it favourably," he said. Aquino said fighter jets were a top priority for the Philippines, which has one of the most poorly-equipped militaries in the region, because the country has none. "From nothing to one is a significant leap. I am told we can sustain two squadrons (24 aircraft)."
