StarCity is a huge entertainment and leisure complex containing a multi-screen cinema, restaurants, shops, clubs and a casino. Located on the site of the former Nechells Power Station, it was reclaimed by the Birmingham Heartlands Development Corporation and became one of their signature regeneration projects for the Heartlands area of Birmingham, thanks to a £6.8 million government grant.

The complex was formally opened in July 2000 by actors George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg to coincide with the UK premier of 'The Perfect Storm'.

A 22-lane Megabowl bowling alley was revealed when Star City opened and has remained since - however, this has now been re-branded as Tenpin. By the end of 2003, it was the largest leisure park in the country ahead of The Printworks in Manchester and The Mailbox in Birmingham city centre. A Goals soccer centre opened in 2007 with fourteen floodlit pitches situated on the roof. England's first indoor 36 hole adventure mini golf course, 'Adventure Island Mini Golf', opened on 11 June 2008.

Its centrepiece is the 25-screen Vue cinema, which was the largest cinema in Europe when it was opened. There is parking for 2,400 cars.

The complex developed a reputation and become known as "Stab City" due to a stabbing incident soon after its opening. A small police unit was constructed at the entrance to the complex's car park although this has since been demolished and the site developed into a McDonalds drive-thru.
