645 Park Avenue at Montgomery Street
Built in the mid to late 1950s by the adjacent owner of the Sunlite Baking Company (that building is still there, just used by AT&T now). When the building at Park/Montgomery was built, the owner let KNTV open it's television studio in the building, but as TV was still in it's early stages, the Sunlite Bakery owner was prepared to convert the news studio into a garage for the bakery, if the studio failed.
It never did fail and KNTV stayed at 645 Park Avenue until they moved to North First Street in 2001. The building sat vacant since the closure and did have security guarding the property until the City of San Jose acquired the property as part of it's plans to assemble all the properties adjacent to the studio for a planned A's Baseball Stadium.
The building was now completely neglected, squatters soon took over by living inside the building. The outside was repeatedly vandalized over the years as well. April 2014 marked the end of the building when a 5 alarm fire broke out in the building (additional help was requested to battle the fire, with nearby Santa Clara and Sunnyvale sending units over). The building was completely destroyed by the time the fire was extinguished. It was later deemed arson started by one of the squatters living inside. The charred remains and remaining cinder block walls were recently cleared away, leaving only the foundation behind.
