Muş Valley

Msho Dasht ( Tarawn valley )
Moush plane or Moush valley is a fertile plain at the middle course of Aratzani (Murad) river where it takes its tributary named Meghraget, to the south of the mid part of Armenian Highlands. The local name to it is Msho Dasht which in Armenian language means: Moush valley. The name originates from a beautiful Armenian legend narrating about godess Anahit, who loved to swim at the waters of Meghraget river in the nighttime. Young men from the nearby villages learned & sparked bonfires on surrounding hills to admire the naked goddess. Godess Anahit sends a fog across the valley to defend themselves from others' sights. All the valley got the name of Fog which in Armenian language sounds like: Mshsho Dasht ( Fog's Valley ). It is considered one of the early centers of the Armenian civilization and housed ancient Armenian churches until the 1960s. The town of Moush was the seat of a diocese of both the Armenian Apostolic as well as the Armenian Catholic Churches. In May 1915, virtually the entirety of Mus Valley's Armenian population, some 65,000 people, was massacred as part of the Armenian genocide. Almost all Armenian churches, schools, cemeteries and other monuments bearing Armenian inscriptions were destroyed to foundation by Turks at the time of the genocide of years later. Now local population consists of Kurds & Turks who name the plane: Muş ovası.
