Surb Astvatzatzin (Holy Virgin) of Ar Ter is a destroyed Armenian monastery on Ar Ter island. According to legend, the Gregory Of Narek (Grigor Narekatsi) prayed wishing to see the newly born Jesus Christ. Once he has noticed as a light beam fallen from the sky on the island's surface. He went down from the monastery to the lakeshore and swam to the island. As he reached he saw the Madonna with the newly born Christ in her hands. She handed the baby to Gregory and said "Take The God". This phrase sounds in Armenian as "Ar Ter"...
