Ostrovo has remained a former island naturally created by Vardar River. Fossil remains are nowadays found in river-beds, covered with humus layers, leaves, overgrown grass and shrubby vegetation. Therefore, the island is scientifically known as a fossil island of the Vardar River. The high groundwater level in the village of Trubarevo is typical of Ezerce. The Vardar River flows 500m southeast of Ostrovo. It remains an important hydrographic system for the wider region. Ostrovo=island
