The bell tower on the left side of the building was constructed in place of the original cylindrical bell tower, which was destroyed by the mines of the retreating Germans in August 1944. Part of the old tower is still visible about two feet tall. This piece construction with a diameter of about ten feet, according to a recent hypothesis, must have belonged to an ancient baptistery attached to the cathedral church already since its first construction.
