Structure Description of Eleven Old Fort Road, Newport, RI
The house at 11 Old Fort Road in Newport Rhode Island is a circa 1913 2½ story, two bay, Colonial Revival, front gabled, rectangular dwelling located in a densely populated area of the city. The house sits on lot 106, plat 41, which is approximately 3820 square feet in size. It faces Old Fort Road to the east and Anthony Place to the north. There are two other auxiliary buildings on the site, including a modern garage and garden shed. The property is surrounded by a privet hedge on the east and north sides and a wooden picket fence on the south and west sides. The area has average tree coverage for the neighborhood, consisting of maples and beach.

The main house is wood lapped clapboard on the first floor and plain wood shingles on the second floor and gable ends. The roof, which is peaked at approximately 40 degrees, is coved with plain gray slate tiles. There is an enclosed brick chimney on the south side of the roof which seems to be lied in a common pattern. There is a one story enclosed porch across the front first floor of the house, which has a welded seam metal roof. There is also a large one story bow-front bay window on the north side of the house towards the rear. There is also a one-story square rear porch projection on the west side. Both of these projections are welded seam metal roofs.

The foundation is of uncut, no course, granite rubble up to the sill on all sides. The basic construction appears to be balloon framed. The windows on the house are modern vinyl double-hung replacement one-over-ones which replaced the original double-hung two-over-ones. The front porch has windows that are grouped in twos, one group on each side of the central door. The gable end has a centered one-over-one double hung window. The gable ends are enclosed and recessed, forming an unbroken pediment. Exterior corner posts are simple eight inch wood board rising from the sill to the frieze.

The garage is a detached, cement slabbed, cinder block 1 ½ story, gable-ended structure (c. 1989) with standard asphalt roofing shingles and textured plywood gable end. The roof is peaked at approximately 50 degrees. The garden shed (c. 1982) is a modern one room, low 15-degree gable structure located on the north side, between the main house and Anthony Place. The north and west sides of the dwelling are surrounded by colored flagstone and brick patio paving, respectively. The south side of the dwelling is gardened and contains a pea-stone path.
