Established in July of 1956 as the 125th Fighter-Interceptor Group, the 125th FW moved to their present location at Jacksonville Air National Guard Base in 1971 and has remained an Alert Detachment of fighter aircraft in the US Air Force's United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) as well as North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Tasked to provide air superiority/air dominance missions in both US and foreign airspace, the 125th FW is equipped with the F-15 Eagle C and D models, and also operates a single WC-130H Hercules aircraft for logistical support of the wing, geographically separated units (GSUs) of the Florida Air National Guard and additional "as needed" airlift support to the Florida Army National Guard. The 125 FW also operates C-26B aircraft in support of state and federal law enforcement agencies under Title 32 USC authority.
