military, tanker (ship)
The second member of the Mashu Class of Replenishment Oilers built for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, JDS Omi was laid down in February 2003 and commissioned into service in March of 2005. A larger and more capable version of the preceding Towada Class of Replenishment Oilers, the Omi and ships of her class incorporate improvements to fuel delivery and stores transfer capabilities which permit the ship to better operate in blue-water environments.
