Matagorda Christ Episcopal Church is the oldest Episcopal Church in Texas. Its history began in 1838 when the old chapel was built. The first service was Christmas day, 1839. The original structure was destroyed by a hurricane in 1854. The rebuilt church used some of the components from the original.
