Between September 8, 1950 and December 24, 1960 was called Stalin City after Joseph Stalin , and was capital of the region with the same name. Poiana Brasov bore also the name of Poiana Stalin (see 3rd picture).

Was once Stalin City...
In the years 1950-1960 , a tourist who wanted to come by train to the foot of the Tâmpa mountain , could not ask for a ticket to Brasov for the city officially existed no more. The name of this town was transformed into Stalin.
A joke of the time said that this " honor" was initially attributed to Sibiu(Hermannstadt) but because the already famous local mezel (Salam de Sibiu) could not become " Salam de Stalin "(Stalin Salami) was chosen another city from the heart of Romanian People's Republic to mark the Romanian -Soviet ''love''.
Formalisation was made in September 1950 on the occasion of a new territorial reorganization of Romania. How Hollywood back then was considered a symbol of imperialist influence , the new name of the city was inserted into Tâmpa in an eco-friendly manner by writing with fir trees , the evergreen tree !
Today the writing can not be observed, from the distance in winter days can be dimly seen the letters _ _ A L I N.
