Guido Gezelle, poet, linguist, translator and publicist, was born in Bruges on 1 may 1830. After his college years and priest studies, in which he's been shown smooth language skills and writing talent, he became a teacher at the minor seminary in 'Roeselare' in 1854. Gezelle gave, inter alia, languages, accompanied the fairly extensive colony of foreign pupils, particularly English, and got during two school years (1857-1859) a honourable mission as a teacher in the same time influences, the penultimate year of the humanities.
