This was a very popular beach in the 70s for families. The beach is relatively protected by the spit and a coral reef just off shore, that hasa magnificent drop-off. The spit was encrusted with oysters that kids ate straight from the shells, and the WWII gun emplacements (Basilisk Battery) on the hill were a great place to play.
