this town is situated on the banks or River Amaravathi and is 1 km east of Komaralingam.Kudriyar river confluences with River Amaravathi here.

Kolumam is a beautiful village surrounded by lush green fields and coconut groves. Two perennial rivers (Amaravati river and Kuthiraiyaru river) converge at this village.
The name Kolumam (or 'Kuzhumam' in Tamil literary sense) itself conveys the meaning of convergence of rivers here. The village has lot of historical significance with more than five hundred years old temples (Natarajar Temple, Viswanathar Temple, Mariamman Temple etc.).

  • Kolumam is a very old fertile village. It is one of the K villages of Coimbatore district. The Natarajar statue in the shiva temple is the largest known panchaloga idol. The shivan here is known as Brihannayaki sameda sholishwarar. Other temples in the village are the famous Mariamman temple, Kalayana Varadaraja Perumal and Angala Parameshwari
  • V.Padmanaha Iyer, son of Vydinath Iyer, resident of Kolumam, ran away from his home around 1904 to first study in Pollachi and later to Kashi, where he studied in the Central Hindu College until B.Sc. In 1911 he proceeded to the University of California at Berkley, San Francisco, USA, wherefrom he graduated in Agriculture before going to the University of Hawaii for qualifying as a Sugar Technologist. He returned to India in 1924 and worked mostly in U.P. and Bihar. He expired in 1945 while working in the Godavari Sugar Mills, Lakshmiwadi, near Shirdi, in Maharashtra. Shirdi Sai Sansthan built his Samadhi at the entrance of Lendi Garden, where Sai Baba used to go every day.
