USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / Fifth Avenue, 47
museum, movie / film / TV location, social club

4-story Italianate clubhouse building originally completed in 1852 as a townhouse for Irad Hawley. It is faced in brownstone with the entryway reached via a prominent stone stoop. Below and to the sides of the stoop are segmental-arched basement windows, fronted by small gardens with wrought-iron fences. The entrance is set within an arch and pediment, in the second bay from the north (four bays total). The windows on either side on the entry have dentiled cornices. The windows of the upper floors have brownstone surrounds, with projecting sills and cornices. The short attic windows lack the cornices. The building is topped with a dark grey-brown bracketed roof cornice.

The Salmagundi Club, also known as the Salmagundi Art Club, was founded in 1871 in Greenwich Village. For nearly 140 years, the Salmagundi Club has served as a center for fine arts and artists, conducting art exhibitions, art classes, demonstrations, and art auctions as well as hosting many other events.

Growing rapidly, and housed in many temporary locations, the club was at 14 West Twelfth Street for some years. In 1917, the club purchased the Irad Hawley brownstone townhouse at 47 Fifth Avenue, and remodeled the interior for their use, and constructing a large two-story addition in the backyard to house its main art galleries and billiard room.

In 2019, the interior and exterior was used as a filming location for the Amazon series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".
