fortification, lutheran church/kirk, 15th century construction, 13th century construction, 19th century construction

On the site of the present church stood an older church, made out of stone, documented for the first time in 1270. The old church was demolished in 1810 and in 1814 began construction of the present church, in neoclassic style.
In the 15th century was built a wall enclosure with irregular oval shape. Still stand 4 of the 5 original towers. In the 19th century the inner wall was demolished, and in 1909 the warehouses for supplies were partially demolished. In 1908 was practiced by the west tower a gate to allow passage of the hearse. Therefore, the tower is now called Leichenturm (the corpses tower).
