  • Gadag was known as 'Krutupura' since Mahabharat days. 'Gadag' comes from kannada word 'gaddige'. Gadag is famous for Veeranarayan Temple, Trikuteshwar temple, Tontadarya math, and mirchi. 'Kumaravyasa' inspired by lord Veeranarayana wrote monumental mahabharatha in Kannada called 'Bharat Kathamanjari'. Huilgol Narayanarao of Gadag wrote 'Udayavagali namma cheluva kannada naadu'.   • Hello everyone, I hails from Gadag-Betageri and now residing in Bangalore from couple of months. Let me introduce of Gadag City, It is City Municipal Council (CMC) with generally around 2 Lakh population (by 2011 census it is 1,72,000). Gadag is historical city as narrated above by Ashok Handigol. Now let me tell something about business over here. Peasants grow many commercial crops like Cotton, Jowar, Sunflower, Moong dal, Onion etc around Gadag. Hence, it is now booming faster commercially. It holds Oxen fair in APMC Yard every week. Nowadays Gadag is developing in terms of infrastructure and business. There are many monuments within city limits such M K Gandhi at Gandhi Circle, Pandit Puttaraja Gawai (Bhoomareddi Circle), K H Patil and many more. It has political background too. Gadag is known for education, and there are many renowned humanity, science, commerce, management, medical based colleges schools and colleges to learn. People are very social, lovely and friendly.
