The Dalhousie Square Tank as named Lal Dighi to elderly Kolkatans is fed by natural springs, survives as the central feature of the town plan of Kolkata. It has a picturesque beauty surrounded by Writers' Buildings, Reserve Bank, GPO, Telephone Bhawan. Despite being called a Dighi or Lake, it is in reality a big pond.
The surrounding area is called Binay Badal Dinesh Baag (garden). The earlier name was Dalhousie Square.
